Contrary to reports, Arsenal are yet to completely end their interest in wantaway Barcelona striker David Villa, but Atletico Madrid have moved into pole position to sign him.
Arsenal's interest in Villa was well documented throughout the January transfer window, but the La Liga leaders were reluctant to sell a valuable member of their squad with important games approaching both on home turf and in the Champions League.
The Gunners were reportedly setting their sights on a move long term option than the 31 year old Spaniard this summer, but according to InsideSpanishFootball.com's Ben Crump there is still interest on the part of Arsene Wenger.
Speaking to Arsing Around, Crump reiterated that Arsenal have been told they're welcome to make a new offer for the striker come the summer, and reports in Spain insist that Villa remains on the Arsenal manager's hitlist.
However, InsideSpanishFootball.com also understands that Atletico Madrid have become the latest club to show interest in Villa, and their current position in La Liga suggests that Champions League qualification is all but a certainty, and the potential departure of talisman Falcao could be the motivation behind their interest.
With Arsenal's top four hopes still in the balance with 12 games left, it will seemingly come down to whether or not the London club find themselves in the Champions League next season as to whether or not David Villa looks to engineer a move to the Emirates this summer.
