A late own goal from Leverkusen defender Philipp Wollscheid gave Bayern a 2-1 victory as they continued their great run in the Bundesliga.
The home side appeared to have held the league leaders to a draw after Simon Wolfe's strike cancelled out Mario Gomez opener, only for their hard work to be in vain with the own-goal 3 minutes from time.
The match started off slowly, with Bayern hoping to bounce back from a 2-0 loss to Arsenal in midweek. They attempted to threaten the Leverkusen defence in the air but none of their crosses caused issues for the hosts.
After a while, Bayern started to push forward more and more. Schweinsteiger should have done better with his driven effort from just outside the box before Mario Gomez shot over the bar after great work from Alaba.
Xherdan Shaqiri linked up well with Arjen Robben but the Dutchman's low delivery couldn't be finished by Schweinsteiger, with the midfielder failing to make a connection with the ball.
A Bayern corner was met by the head of Gustavo, with Gonzalo Castro on hand to clear off the line. Shortly after, Arjen Robben fired an effort over as the visitors hit on the break.
Leverkusen weren't offering much in attack with their best chance falling to Sebastian Boenisch, who's driven effort was saved well by Manuel Neuer.
Just before the break, Bayern took the lead. Shaqiri's pass was taken by Gomez and he chipped the ball over Carvajal, then firing the ball past Leno in the Leverkusen goal.
Bayer Leverkusen improved in the second-half but were still wasteful in the attacking third.
They got their equaliser via a set-piece. The delivery was met at the near post by Boenisch and headed across goal to Rolfes, who tapped home after poor defending.
Bayern hit the offensive in attempt to get back in front but Leverkusen defended in numbers, charging down whenever possible.
3 minutes from time Bayern went ahead again, with Schweinsteiger's floated free-kick deflected in the back of the net by Wollscheid.
Leverkusen will be left frustrated after working hard to get back into the game but on the whole, a deserved victory for Bayern who remain 20 points clear ahead of Dortmund at the top of the table.
