Bayern victorious in pre-season clash against Barca

Bayern Munich emerged victorious from this pre-season clash of titans with a comfortable 2-0 victory at the Allianz Arena.

Captain Lahm, featuring and impressing in a midfield role, opened the scoring after 15 minutes with Mandzukic finishing the job 3 minutes from the finish.

Bayern could easily have steamrolled their visitors, who played a very young side especially in the second half.

Pep Guardiola picked 8 players that started last season's Champions League final at Wembley, with Bayern Munich in a later stage of their pre-season preparations than their visitors. For his first home game as Bayern manager, a very strong side was selected.

Despite Bayern fielding the more experience starting eleven, it was Barca that had the first chance of the match. Lionel Messi surged forward and curled a shot just wide of the post with just 30 seconds on the clock.

However, from here it was all Bayern. The Germans stamped their authority on the game early on and were creating numerous chances.

Toni Kroos forced a diving save from Pinto with a forceful driver and just a couple of minutes later, Adriano was on hand to deny Robben a goal when he blocked the Dutchman's attempt following a low cross from Ribery.

10 minutes later the Bavarians took the lead. Ribery was already proving a handful and it was his superb cross which was flicked into the net by the head of Lahm, who was enjoying his midfield role.

Thomas Muller smashed a shot just over the bar and Adriano was again on hand to deny Bayern Munich a certain goal.

Barca had a chance before the interval when Christian Tello cut in from the left and fired a shot narrowly wide of the post.

Bayern introduced Shaqiri, Mandzukic and goalkeeper Tom Starke for the second-half while Barcelona changed their entire line up and were now being represented by youth team and B players.

Bayern continued to dominate in the second-half, as you would expect against a youthful Barcelona side. However, their chances on goal were limited.

Mario Madzukic forced a good save from Oier when the goalkeeper sloppily gave the ball to Ribery, who cut the ball back across goal to the striker.

By this point, Bayern had brought on Contento, Kirchoff, Schweinsteiger, Can and Pizarro all onto the field. The numerous changes being made in true pre-season fashion.

The young Barcelona side then started to look like their senior counterparts, keeping the ball well and dictating the tempo of the match which drew boo's from the home crowd.

The unhappy supporters got their wishes when Bayern stepped up the tempo again. Contento forced a save from Oier with a low drive before Bayern really got going again.

Pizarro was close to making it 2-0 when he rose to meet Shaqiri's cross but he was unable to get a proper connection on the ball. Shaqiri himself was guilty of wasting a good opportunity moments later when he hit a poor effort at goal.

With 3 minutes to go Bayern finally doubled their advantage. Contento whipped in a cross to Mandzukic who was left with a simple finish.
