Chelsea secured a comfortable 2-0 victory at home to West Ham this afternoon to leapfrog Spurs in the table and take third place, capitalising after Tottenham were defeated 1-0 by Fulham.
Frank Lampard's 200th Chelsea goal and a strike from Eden Hazard kept the points at Stamford Bridge, with West Ham offering little on the day.
Chelsea controlled the game from the off and should've been in front when Demba Ba was sent through on goal but he fluffed his finish and his former employers were lucky to escape without punishment.
Lampard then gave Chelsea the lead with 19 minutes on the clock, rising high in the box to head home Eden Hazards lofted cross. The goal leaves him now just two shy of Bobby Tambling's Blues record.
West Ham were unlucky not to pull level just minutes after. Andy Carroll outmuscled David Luiz and unleashed a shot that flew past Cech but the referee judged him to have fouled the Brazlian defender.
Demba Ba then wasted more chances, forcing saves from Jaaskeleinen when Moses played him through on goal and later when Guy Demel played him onside.
Chelsea didn't have to wait long to get their second as five minutes after the break Eden Hazard found the net.
The Belgian star played a one-two with Juan Mata, flicked the ball up and skipped past two Hammers defenders before finishing low into the bottom of the net.
Having achieved the second goal they were looking for, Chelsea strolled to the finish.
West Ham were restricted to few chances and never really threatened, with the star of the show being Chelsea's Summer acquisition, Eden Hazard was on hot form throughout.
Chelsea are now one point ahead of Tottenham with a game in hand and sit five points ahead of Arsenal.
