Roy Hodgson has been forced to draft in Newcastle United's Steven Taylor for England's upcoming World Cup qualifiers after Gary Cahill was ruled out of Friday's match against San Marino with a knee injury.
News of Cahill's injury is the latest blow to England's set of defensive options after the withdrawal of Michael Dawson and Rio Ferdinand over the weekend.
Taylor hasn't been involved in an England squad since 2007 and is also yet to be capped, but the 27-year old is excited at the prospect of finally turning out for his country:
"It's a dream come true. I am so happy to have received a call-up to the full squad. It is every player's ambition to represent their country and it is the greatest honour in professional football. If I am lucky enough to be given that chance over the next seven days it will be one of the proudest moments of my playing career."
