Jurgan Klopp clinched his 100th Bundesliga victory today as his Dortmund side defeated Eintracht Braunschweig 2-1.
Dortmund's first home game of the season didn't go exactly to plan as it wasn't until the second-half that they took the lead, when substitute Jonas Hofmann scored after brilliant build up play.
Marco Reus also came off the bench to score as he dispatched the penalty won by Hofmann.
A late own-goal from Robert Lewandowski wasn't enough to get Braunschweig back into the match as last season's runners up dominated the game and eventually got their reward.
The visitors had the first chance of the game when Kruppke made a late run into the box but he couldn't turn the ball towards goal with his sliding attempt and the ball flashed past the post.
Mkhitaryan had Dortmund's first sight of goal a couple of minutes later when he turned sharply and drove a shot towards goal which was well blocked by the Braunschweig defence.
10 minutes later Aubameyang, who scored a hat-trick last weekend, rounded the keeper. However, his heavy touch took him wide and he was forced to cross the ball towards Lewandowski but Marcel was on hand to get rid of the danger.
Dortmund were beginning to establish control on the match but were looking uncharacteristically shaky in defence, while failing to creating clear opportunities in front of goal and being forced to take long shots.
Braunschweig had another fantastic opportunity when Theuerkauf burst onto the edge of the box and hit a volley which went inches wide of the goal.
Sahin was close to giving Dortmund the lead with his free-kick 25 yards out, with the ball flying just over the bar and clipping the top of the netting which led many of the home support to believe that they had taken the lead.
At half-time it was goalless. Braunschweig were happy with the opening 45 minutes as they frustrated the Champions League finalists, while Dortmund would need to improve in the second-half if they wanted to clinch victory.
Bender was close to giving the home side the lead shortly after the second period began. He unleashed a low driven shot towards goal, which bent away at the last minute and went just wide.
Aubameyang forced a decent save from Davari but the offside flag had already been raised and Marco Reus created problems with his free-kick delivery shortly after his introduction.
Reus then put the ball in the net after he was played through by Aubameyang but it was correctly disallowed for offside. Moments later, Aubameyang was guilty of a horrendous miss when he latched onto a loose ball at the back post and blazed his shot over the bar.
That was to be his last contribution to the game as he was replaced by Jonas Hofmann.
Lewandowski should've given Dortmund the lead when he collected Reus' wayward shot but he couldn't connect properly with the ball and poorly poked the ball towards goal from 3 yards out.
With 15 minutes left of play Dortmund finally took the lead. Hummels picked up the ball on the half way line and gave the ball to Hoffman. A swift, beautiful one-two followed and Hoffman put the ball into the net off the far post.
10 minutes later they got their second of the match. Hofmann drifted betwee challenges in the box but was eventually fouled by Bicakcic and the referee pointed to the spot.
Up stepped Marco Reus and he made no mistake with his finish, dispatching the ball into the bottom right-hand corner of the goal.
Braunschweig were back in the game with minutes to go when Boland's corner hit the head of Lewandowski and went past Weidenfeller. Lewandowski looked desperate for a goal today, unfortunately he put it into his own net.
The own-goal wasn't enough for Braunschweig and Dortmund held onto their lead. The hosts will be happy to get the points but it was far from the performance we saw last week against Augsburg.
Braunschweig, after losing narrowly to Werder Bremen last weekend, will be gutted again as they played well and frustrated Dortmund for the majority of the match.
